Rohit started KRNL in April 2026 and builds it in public: the studio, KRNL OS, and the tools that fall out of both. Before this he ran ResumeGuru. He writes about what he is making at rohit.krnl.studio.
KRNL is a small studio with one habit: find the core of the problem before building anything. One studio, several rooms: the client work, the software, the tools we give away, and the experiments.
KRNL came out of a conviction, not a gap in a market. Rohit learned the hard way that complexity is a trap. Every time he overcomplicated a problem it cost him, and the way through was always to cut back to the part that actually mattered.
That is what a kernel is: the root, the thing everything else grows from. There is always noise around it. Our job is to cut through the noise and work from the inside out.
Applied to the work, it comes out simple. Most studios build what a client asks for. We ask what the client actually needs. Those are usually different things, and the difference is the work.
Five things we decided early and have not moved off. They are why the work looks the way it does, and why we sometimes recommend less than you asked for.
Every decision gets measured against one question: does this build trust or erode it? Not whether it looks good, not whether it is liked. Whether it is believed.
If an element does not serve the goal, it should not exist. Decoration is not a substitute for having something to say.
We do not start designing until we understand the goal, the user, and what would make them act. The goal defines the work. The work never defines the goal.
Noise gathers around every real problem: opinion, overthinking, trend-chasing. Soon the kernel is buried under it. We cut until what is left is the thing that actually matters.
Design is a way of saying something, and the client work is held to the same standard as the experiments. The message, the ability to convey it, and the impact it has. When all three land, it is finished.
The same five steps every time, whether the project is a website, a brand, or the system a business runs on.
Before anything is designed we understand the business, the goal, the user and the context. This part is not optional, and it is not billed as an extra.
Not what you think you need. What you actually need. Those are usually different things, and the difference is the whole reason to hire a studio.
We recommend what should be built, how, and why. If our recommendation differs from what you expected, you hear that early rather than at the end.
You are a collaborator, not a recipient. We make room for your ideas and still hold the line when something will not work.
Every decision is checked back against the goal and against trust. We do not ship something we would not put our own name on.
Two people. The studio is the character, but somebody signs the work.

co-founder, personal branding
Works on the voice a business is recognised by, and on the founders who have to say it out loud.
Rohit builds in public. The log, the writing and the tools all live at his own hub.
One conversation, no pitch deck. We will tell you honestly whether we are the right people for what you are trying to build.
